In this Q&A we take a deep dive into Biohacking the face - 12 hacks for a very vibrant visage! Along with questions about why we Biohack, Methylene Blue, natural medicine, exercise studies, Nootropic recommendations, and "relationshacking" (relationship hacking).

5-HTP

This amino acid consistently increases the levels of the "feel-good" neurotransmitter Serotonin and that's not always a good thing.

I've used 5-HTP infrequently but this article is mostly going to focus on decoding what the human studies are saying about 5-HTP and how this squares up with the anecdotal experiences of Biohackers online. For more of my own personal experiences, thoughts, and comparisons please see the written and video reviews in the sidebar.

A Spy in Kyiv?
By Jonathan Roseland

From How to Be Cross Eyed: Thriving Despite Your Physical Imperfection — a mémoire and lifehacking manifesto

I had given up my aspiration of becoming a pseudo-Berliner, moved out of my flat near Alexanderplatz, and embarked toward the Slavic east. I only had a few days left on my Schengen visa so I didn’t linger long in Poland. As the night bus crossed the Ukrainian border it bumped noisily over a piece of cold metal that let out an eerie metallic groan into the dark. I was now a denizen of the wild, wild east.

Aquatic Misadventures

Water and I have a sordid history.

Breathless, 90 feet down

The first time I almost died underwater was during my scuba certification dive. Scuba is a badass (and expensive!) hobby but it’s quite dangerous! Every seasoned scuba diver has a story or two (or more) about almost dying. There are just so many things that can go wrong when you’re deep underwater pretending to be a fish.

Bladderwrack

A Natural Iodine Source that Brings the Divine Feminine into Balance

Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus) is an Iodine-rich seaweed and natural medicine that brings female hormones into balance.

As we’ll learn from the science, Bladderwrack deserves to be in almost every woman’s vitamin cabinet. Women’s bodies are just a bit more complicated, like a beautiful (yet finicky) high performance European sports car, they just need more attention and maintenance. Our hormones underlie our well-being in life and hormones are downstream from Thyroid function. If the Thyroid is not happy and getting what it needs, neither are we. The Thyroid needs Iodine, without sufficient dietary Iodine, our hormones become imbalanced impacting our energy levels, mood, fertility, and metabolism. Bladderwrack is an outstanding Iodine source.

BPC-157

This is an anti-aging peptide cocktail of 15 different amino acids.

BPC stands for Body Protection Compounds, an apt acronym as this peptide's chief utility seems to be as a biohack for resilience and healing. In gym bro slang, it's referred to as The Wolverine Drug, if you recall, in the X-Men movies Wolverine has a superhuman capacity to heal his own body - that's sort of what BPC-157 enables.

Doubt the Devil. Doubt Everything
By Jonathan Roseland

I did a "No-Black Pill April" a while back; black pill is internet parlance for depressing news content; the news is more often than not depressing and cortisol stimulating. Of course, I don't watch the nightly news on television - Fox News or CNN - but over the past few years, I've become a bit of a political news junkie following a bunch of alternative news personalities. I unfollowed everyone on Twitter and unsubscribed from everyone I watched on Youtube that discussed the news for a month. I'd encourage you to try doing a "No-Black Pill April" but honestly, it didn't make much of a difference in my subjective mood and mental health in April, but I've got an interesting philosophical takeaway from it...

Game by Roosh V

A comprehensive game textbook for the modern seducer from the Internet's most infamous (former) pickup artist.

I've read and followed Roosh V for some time, I don't agree with him on everything but I've had a similar path of personal development and find him very insightful.

I'm a case study of the effectiveness of game; I was an awkward young man who really struggled with women for a long time, but then I devoted myself to the art of seduction resulting in a rowdy and memorable sex life across three continents. I got married last year to a lovely Bulgarian woman and funnily, my wife wanted to read this book with me, so we spent several evenings cuddled up reading this book to each other and discussing it.

Getting (almost) robbed on my way to meet Mark Manson
By Jonathan Roseland

From How to Be Cross Eyed: Thriving Despite Your Physical Imperfection — a mémoire and lifehacking manifesto

A lifehack for meeting interesting and influential people is to travel to exotic places and network with other English speakers.

Sure you can easily find plenty of rowdy Australian backpackers to swill beer with. But if you want to network up try to connect with entrepreneurs in almost any cosmopolitan metropolis you can find on Facebook a local entrepreneurial group.

In just such a group I saw that a few acquaintances of mine were getting dinner with the eminent blogger and author Mark Manson (whose best-selling book I was less than impressed by) at a swanky restaurant in Medellin, Colombia. I sent a few private messages to get myself invited. I dressed sharply and headed out.

I met my (trad) wife at a club
By Jonathan Roseland

Yes, really.
You've heard that clubs are awful as places to meet women - that you can only meet sluts and party girls - "blenders" - at clubs. And there’s some truth to this stereotype but I met my wife, who was the furthest thing from promiscuous and who is objectively a better wife than any other I’ve ever heard of, at a club. And I'll tell you a little about how we met and what stood out about her, but as you can see I am in a beautiful place - Sozopol on Bulgaria's black sea coast...

This is kind of a special place for me - it's where my now wife and I took our first romantic getaway as a couple 4 years ago. And walking these cobbled streets again inspires me to share some lessons about frame control - which is super important in your relationships. Frame control is worth figuring out, if you're mindful of frame control and get it right from the inception of your relationship with a lady, the reward is tranquility.
